Senior Behavioral Specialist

The Sr. Behavioral Specialist helps to support individuals and staff in one program with-in the Developmental Services Department. This person will assist the Clinical Coordinator/ Clinical Manager with day to day person centered clinical services provided to individuals. This person is also responsible for training staff around clinical matters and Positive Behavior Supports and Person Centered Planning. They will work in a team environment to help individuals increase adaptive skills and behaviors, while decreasing maladaptive behaviors. This person may also help create and complete documents for a variety of topics including assessments and behavior. This person will hold behavioral on-call responsibilities as well as some basic administrative on-call needs.

Expectation of the Role:

  1. Attend meetings when necessary, including risk, intake or discharge, transition, and staff meetings.
  2. Understand the characteristics of a wide range of intellectual disabilities as well as disorders such as autism and acquired brain injury.
  3. Train direct support professionals in the areas of data collection, Positive Behavior Supports, Person Centered Planning, and more.
  4. Manage and process incident reports related to behavioral incidents with-in the group home.   
  5. Actively participate in the collection and review of Key Indicators of Quality Service data, assist in identifying trends, and participate in Performance Improvement Projects with the goals of developing solutions and problem solving.
  6. Maintain database on appropriate information, complete paperwork, and write reports as necessary.
  7. Maintain core training including but not limited to First Aid/CPR, NAPPI, Identifying and Reporting Clinical Risk, and OSHA.
  8. Assist teaching trainings at NSMHA training center, related to DDS.
  9. Other duties assigned by the Clinical Manager, Program Manager, and Director of Residential Services.

What you’’ll need:

Education: High School Diploma/GED required. Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, education, or a related field strongly preferred

Experience: A minimum of 3 years’ experience working with individuals who have Developmental Disabilities, and other disorders. Knowledge of ABA and Positive Behavior Supports

Skills: CPR/First Aid certified within three months of hire (training provided)
