North Suffolk is looking for a Medical Assistant to join our new MAT-PDOA program! The Medical Assistant supports the Nurse Care Manager and plays a key role as patient liaison and is instrumental in helping patients feel at ease in the medical provider’s office as well as explaining the medical provider’s instructions. This person also performs clinic support in both the clinical and administrative areas.
What you’ll do:
- In the clinical area, the medical assistant participates in the delivery of patient care.
- In the administrative area, the medical assistant gathers patient information for registration, schedules appointments, verifies demographic and financial information, and assists in the facilitation of patient flow throughout the ambulatory setting.
- Take medical histories.
- Explain treatment procedures to patients, obtaining informed consent.
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist the physician or nurse during examinations.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens (urine or saliva drug screening) and perform basic laboratory tests.
- Instruct patients about medication and special guidelines.
- Prepare medications for administration by a licensed medical provider as directed by a physician.
- Transmit prescription refills as directed.
- Perform and obtain GPRA, COWS, or using other clinical instruments such as MATOARS
- Administrative Duties (may include, but not limited to):
- Using computer applications
- Answering telephones
- Welcoming patients
- Updating and filing patient medical records
- Coding and filling out insurance forms
- Scheduling appointments
- Arranging for laboratory services
- Handling correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping
What you’ll need:
- Education/Qualifications: Holds a valid degree from an accredited medical assisting program (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools). Not required, but strongly preferred for MAT-PDOA: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certificate through the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants. In addition, the MA will attend MAT-PDOA-specific training curriculum for all program team members.
