Community Mental Health Clinician

We are currently offering a $6,000 sign on bonus for this position.

NSMHA is looking for a full time outpatient Mental Health Clinician/Clinical Care Coordinator for our Freedom Trail Clinic located in downtown Boston.  This position is a part of our SAMHSA grant-funded project to expand services for clients with serious mental illness, better engage clients who are homeless, and expand services for clients who are deaf or hard of hearing. The project is known as the Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) grant. The CMHC Clinician will work as part of an interdisciplinary team implementing the grant, and will be responsible for providing clinical services and case management to clients who are enrolled in the grant. This is a 40hr/week position, 9-5 Monday-Friday, beginning in-person with the option to transition to hybrid.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide direct outpatient therapy services, incorporating evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches.
  • Screen individuals seeking outpatient or diversionary services.
  • Conduct biopsychosocial assessments for outpatient clients and families.
  • Provide case management services to identified clients, including collateral coordination and connection with additional services.
  • Provide crisis intervention and on-call coverage in the clinic as needed.
  • Receive weekly individual supervision (towards licensure, if needed).
  • Be a vital member of a multidisciplinary team of social workers, counselors, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, recovery coaches, and administrators.
  • Meet regularly with the CMHC team to support grant-related projects and participate in overall implementation of the grant.

What you’ll need:

  • Ability to be organized in scheduling and time management
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team of mental health, medical, and administrative professionals to provide the highest quality care to patients
  • Ability to provide nonjudgmental and supportive care to clients with diagnoses including schizophrenia, schizoaffective, bipolar disorder, and complex PTSD
  • Familiarity with effects of poverty, homelessness, racism, and other forms of oppression on mental health and development
  • Awareness around the impacts of trauma and ability to provide trauma-informed care
  • Excellent communication skills (both interpersonal and written)
  • Commitment to equity, anti-racism, and the improvement of health-related social needs.

Position Qualifications:

  • Education/Skills: Master’s degree in Social Work/Counseling. Valid independent clinical license (LICSW/LMHC) preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience providing community-based direct care to an outpatient population of adults with a variety of diagnoses and presentations.
  • Vaccination: At least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccination is required prior to hire and complete the full vaccination schedule in the appropriate timeline as documented by the CDC requirements for vaccination.
