Title Assistant Program Coordinator – DS

Job Information

This position is responsible for assisting with the programmatic and administrative aspects of a residential program under the supervision of the Program Coordinator and/or Residential Service Coordinator.  Assist in recruiting, training and evaluating staff.  Assist in arranging staff schedules to meet the health and safety requirements of the program.  Assist in the development and implementation of Quality Indicators through the ISP process.  Assist with families/guardians, DDS, MCB and other service providers.  Perform on-call duties as required.  Supervises and participates in the housekeeping and maintenance of the house and vehicle.  Monitors medications in accordance with MAP regulations.  Assists with caseload, ISPS, menu planning, activities and day to day operations of the programs.  Assist with end of the month supervisions, work orders, ordering of food, food shopping, and medication and money audits.

High School Degree or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred.  Must be MAP certified, CPR/first aide certified within five (5) continuous months of employment/date of hire.   Two years experience in the Human Services field required.  Supervisory experience preferred. Valid Drivers License Required.

Direct Support Professionals are responsible for supporting individuals in the completion of their daily routines and for ensuring clients live a safe, healthful, enjoyable life in the community. Direct Support staff are responsible for ensuring Individuals are provided with opportunities to learn and exercise increasing independence as much as practicable.

High School diploma or GED Two years related experience providing child care/elder care/direct support to developmentally disabled persons or previous experience supporting individuals in a mental health/special education or other human services setting is required. An equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.

Job Summary: 

Reports to Program Manager.  Engages peers in activities that support the agency’s goals and values.   Coordinate the activities and schedules of members and volunteers to ensure effective program implementation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Recruit volunteers and create linkages.
  2. Perform the initial screening process for all volunteers.
  3. Facilitate the orientation of peer members and volunteers and establish a schedule of participation.
  4. Assist in the training of peers to become facilitators of peer groups.
  5. Meet regularly with volunteers to update them about opportunities and resources.
  6. Develop and maintain a up-to-date volunteer database and tracking system.
  7. Conduct a variety of activities that meet the diverse interests and needs of the recovery community

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Ability to interact effectively with peers, their families, visitors, and other staff.
  2. Good telephone skills
  3. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  4. Ability to interface with small or large groups.
  5. Ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  6. Proficiency in MS Word and ability to use a data file system.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or GED and one year of supervised experience in substance abuse, a related human services field, or equivalent. Knowledge and understanding of: addiction as a disease and recovery is highly preferred.
