The Behavioral Specialist helps to support individuals and staff in the Developmental Services Department. This person will assist the Clinical Coordinator/ Clinical Manager with day to day person centered clinical services provided to individuals. This person will also be responsible for training staff around clinical matters and Positive Behavior Supports and Person Centered Planning. They will work in a team environment to help individuals increase adaptive skills and behaviors, while decreasing maladaptive behaviors. This person may also help create and complete documents for a variety of topics including assessments and behavior.   The Behavioral Specialist is expected to use Person Centered Planning and Positive Behavior Supports on a daily basis when working with staff and clients and understand the characteristics of a wide range of intellectual disabilities as well as disorders such as autism and acquired brain injury.  This positions trains direct support professionals in the areas of data collection, Positive Behavior Supports, Person Centered Planning, and more; as well as actively participates in the collection and review of Key Indicators of Quality Service data, assist in identifying trends, and participate in Performance Improvement Projects with the goals of developing solutions and problem solving.

  • Assists the parent/caregiver in meeting the youth’s needs by educating, supporting, coaching, modeling or guiding and fosters empowerment.
  • Delivers services in the parent/caregiver’s home and community.

  • Provide family education, advocacy and support to youth and family.

As the Awake Overnight Counselor for North Suffolk Mental Health Association, you’ll be responsible for the safety and well-being of consumers in a residential setting (MH or DS) during overnight shifts. Assist clients based on need level, while following all agency policies, procedures, and licensing/funding source requirements. The Awake Overnight Counselor is awake and available to consumers during the entire overnight shift.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform general cleaning and housekeeping duties
  • Oversee nightly activities as assigned by supervisor
  • Conduct security checks on an hourly basis, documenting that consumers are in the facility.
  • Perform basic data collection, entry, and tallying of information with respect to IAP goals, objectives, and protocol.
  • Perform weekly medication counts, medication audits and communicate with day staff the need to order refills.

For DS residential programs: 

  • During the week, wake individuals up for day program
  • Assist with showering, and dressing for the day
  • Make sure clothing is clean and appropriate for the weather
  • Prepare breakfast for the individuals
  • Make sure lunch is packed for day program

REQUIREMENTS:

Experience: At least 1 year in the human services field working with a similar population required.

Education: High School degree or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in a similar field, preferred.

As a Bilingual Spanish Direct Support Professional III, you’ll be responsible for providing high quality direct care services to adults with developmental disabilities in a residential setting. Direct Support Professionals will help clients live a safe, healthy, and enjoyable life in the community. Direct Support staff are responsible for ensuring Individuals are provided with opportunities to learn and exercise, increasing independence as much as possible.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the health and safety of Individuals served
  • Serve as a Mandated Reporter
  • Handle crisis situations according to agency policies and procedures
  • Monitor group home site and vehicle for safety, cleanliness and upkeep
  • Support the learning of Individuals by use of motivational techniques
  • Assist individuals with any activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Accompany individuals to medical appointments/treatment
  • Properly administer medication in accordance with Agency, DDS and DPH guidelines – Medication Administration Procedures (MAP).
  • Support each Individuals existing relationships and assist in increasing their network of friends and acquaintances.

  • Attend and actively participate in mandatory staff meetings and trainings as well as supervision meetings.

REQUIREMENTS:

Must be Bilingual Spanish

Experience: Zero to two years related experience (depending on DSP level) providing child care/elder care/direct support to developmentally disabled persons or previous experience supporting individuals in a mental health/special education or other human services setting is required.

Education: High School diploma or GED required

Work Demands:

Job Summary:

The In-Home Therapy (IHT) Clinician provides medically necessary care in a structured, consistent, strength-based therapeutic relationship with a child or youth and his/her family. Interventions are designed to enhance and improve the family’s capacity to improve the youth’s functioning in the home and community and may prevent the need for the youth’s admission to an inpatient hospital, psychiatric residential treatment facility or other treatment setting.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Identify and utilize community resources; develop and maintain natural supports for the youth and parent/caregiver(s) in order to promote sustainability of treatment gains.
  • Reviews and develops risk management plans, and implements focused interventions and behavioral techniques in collaboration with the youth, parent, guardian, and designated caregivers.
  • Completes a written comprehensive home-based, psychosocial behavioral health assessment in the youth’s home or other location of the family’s choosing.
  • Monitoring progress and attainment of treatment plan goals and objectives.

Weekend Floaters are part-time (16 hours per week) positions, responsible for providing weekend coverage in a residential home setting; in either a Direct Support Professional or Awake Overnight capacity. Access to reliable transportation is required, to ensure the floater’s ability to travel to different sites quickly and efficiently.

Residential direct support staff are members of a team, responsible for providing high quality direct care services to adults with mental illness. Each direct support staff member is responsible for ensuring that the human rights of all individuals served are met. Staff are responsible for treating all individuals with dignity and respect. Direct support staff are responsible for supporting individuals in the completion of their daily routines; and for ensuring persons served live a safe, healthy, enjoyable life in the community. Direct support staff are responsible for ensuring that individuals are provided with opportunities to learn and exercise, increasing independence as much as is practicable.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position reports to a North Suffolk psychiatrist for clinical supervision and to the CBFS director or designee for administrative supervision.  This member of the Medical Services Team (MST) is responsible for providing leadership and a broad range of clinical services including psychopharmacology, counseling, psycho-education and medical/clinical management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing interventions for individuals identified as needing MST nursing services.
  • Prescribe medications and conduct regular assessments of therapeutic responses and side effects and educate clients regarding medications.
  • Provide administration of oral and intramuscular medication.
  • Participate in person centered comprehensive assessment (including onset, course and effect of illness, past treatment and responses, risk behaviors; physical health and dental health; use of drugs or alcohol; education and employment; social development and functioning; activities of daily living; and family structure and relationships.
  • Prepare documentation for persons-served in a timely manner and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and Agency standards.
  • Collaborate with the MST Nurses regarding assessment of client physical health, making appropriate referrals to community physicians for further assessment and treatment, and coordinating medical treatments with psychiatric treatment.
  • Collaborate with the MST Nurse and staff in NSMHA community based programs to develop, revise, maintain, and supervise team psychopharmacologic and medical treatment and medication policies and procedures.
  • With other team members, provide support, education, and counseling to family members of clients to help them become knowledgeable about mental illness, collaborate in the treatment planning process, and assist in their family member’s progress.
  • Collaborate with all members of MST to provide crisis assessment and management.
  • Will be available on-call to MST staff, as needed, for management of psychiatric crises requiring immediate intervention.
  • Will participate in the assessment of need for guardianship and, when indicated, complete paperwork required for pursuing guardianships for people served.
  • Attend staff organizational meetings and treatment planning review meetings.
  • Train staff in the knowledge and skills basic to the treatment of severe and persistent mental illnesses.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Master’s Degree in Nursing is required. MA license is required. ANA Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist or Nurse Practitioner is required. Experience in mental health setting is required, community mental health preferred. Bilingual in Spanish/English strongly preferred.

The ACRA/ACC Clinician and Care Coordinator works as part of the Teen TEAM program.  The Teen TEAM program provides substance abuse, community-based treatment to at-risk, underserved adolescents and young adults who have co-occurring substance abuse and mental health diagnosis. Treatment and interventions are in conjunction with the family, care providers, natural supports and case managers from child serving programs, and the ACRA/ACC Clinician is responsible for developing treatment plans and risk management/safety plans supporting the achievement of goals identified by the client and caregivers.  Interventions are designed to be intensive and immediate (after placement or incarceration) to improve the family’s ability to function as a unit both in the home and in the community. The Clinician/Care Coordinator will be trained in CANS, GAIN, and A-CRA/ACC evidence based practices and tools to be used to promote positive social activity, positive peer relationships, improved relationship with family, and improved recovery environment and abstinence from illicit drugs and alcohol.

Master’s degree required.  Experience with substance abuse, LGBT youth, and wrap-around care models preferred.

  • Prescribe medications and conduct regular assessments of therapeutic responses and side effects and educate clients and paraprofessional staff regarding medication treatment regimes.
  • Participate in person served-centered comprehensive assessment of psychiatric history (e.g., onset, course and effect of illness, past treatment and responses, and risk behaviors); physical health and dental health; use of drugs or alcohol; education and employment; social development and functioning; activities of daily living (e.g., self-care, living situation, nutrition, money management); and family structure and relationships.
  • Collaborate with the MST nurses in assessment of client physical health, making appropriate referrals to community physicians for further assessment and treatment, and coordinating medical treatments with psychiatric treatment.
  • Collaborate with the MST lead nurse and staff in other NSMHA community based programs to develop, revise, maintain, and supervise team psychopharmacologic, medical treatment and medication policies and procedures.
  • With other team members, provide support, education, and counseling to persons served and family members to help them become knowledgeable about mental illness, collaborate in the treatment planning process when invited by person served, and assist in his/her family member’s progress.
  • Collaborate with all members of MST to provide crisis assessment and management and to develop crisis/safety plans.
  • Be available on-call to MST staff, as needed, for management of psychiatric crises requiring immediate intervention.
  • Participate in the assessment of need for guardianship and, when indicated, complete paperwork required to pursue guardianship for people served.
  • Participate in the assessment of need for representative payee-ship, and when indicated, complete paperwork that requires physician documentation.
  • Attend staff organizational meetings and treatment planning review meetings.
  • Train staff in the knowledge and skills basic to the treatment of severe and persistent mental illnesses.
  • Provide clinical supervision to professional staff.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Board certified or board eligible in psychiatry and licensed to practice medicine in the state of Massachusetts
  • Has strong clinical skills and experience providing treatment to persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses.
  • Clinical supervisory experience is desirable.
  • The person in this position must have a clear understanding of the characteristics and problems of adults with severe mental illnesses and be committed to community service delivery.
  • Must be CPR certified within five months of hire.

An equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered. Must be MAP certified, CPR/First Aid certified within five (5) continuous months of employment/date of hire (training provided free to staff).

The Awake/Asleep Overnight Counselor is responsible for the safety and well-being of individuals in a residential setting during overnight shifts. Provides assistance to individuals based on their need, and adheres to all agency policies and procedures and licensing/funding source requirements.  Be awake/asleep (dependent on need), and available to individuals during overnight shift.  During awake hours, check in with staff, individuals who are awake and complete a walk-through of the program.  Perform household maintenance and upkeep activities as needed. Monitor and insure health and safety of individuals.

For DS programs:  During the week, wake individuals up for day program, assist with showering and dressing for the day.  Prepare breakfast for the individuals and make sure lunch is packed for day program.

Part time positions available in both DS residential homes and CBFS (Mental Health) Residential homes in Boston, Winthrop, Revere & Waltham.  Please indicate preference in application.
